Obelisk — Nostr Communities

A Discord-style community app built directly on Nostr relays. I am developing it from scratch as a sovereign chat layer for groups, channels, DMs, mobile, and voice — originally started for a hackathon organized by @lacryptaok.

Obelisk is a Nostr-native community client: Discord-style groups and channels without email accounts, passwords, or a platform-owned backend. Identity comes from Nostr keys, messages are signed events, and group state is carried through relay-managed NIP-29 communities.

I started building Obelisk from scratch for a hackathon organized by @lacryptaok, then kept pushing it into a real product: mobile-first navigation, public group chat, encrypted DMs, NIP-07 / nsec / NIP-46 login work, relay tooling, and voice experiments with mesh WebRTC and a mediasoup SFU.

The point is simple: communities should not depend on a centralized platform landlord. Obelisk is my attempt to make sovereign group chat feel usable enough for real people while staying anchored in open protocols.
